The Simple Trick To Improve Your Mobility

Written by StretchLab Blog | Mar 10, 2025

Have you started to notice a decrease in your mobility? Do movements that once felt effortless now come with aches and tightness? You’re not alone! It’s not uncommon for people to experience a noticeable decrease in their mobility as they age or when they go through lifestyle changes. The good news is this decrease in mobility can often be reversed through simple mobility exercises such as stretching!

Why Your Mobility Matters

Being able to move effortlessly is something many of us may take for granted. Some individuals may not even consider mobility and flexibility as a priority. But mobility is a large factor in being able to maintain one’s health and wellness. It is the foundation for balance, coordination, range of motion, and overall physical movement.

Limited mobility is often the cause of reduced activity, muscle and joint aches, and even injuries. Unfortunately, many individuals don’t realize their mobility is declining until they’ve begun to experience discomfort. This is why prioritizing preventative wellness is so important! Preventative wellness practices such as assisted stretching allow individuals to proactively care for their health, helping to prevent illness and injuries.

No matter the age, maintaining a healthy level of mobility supports an individual’s ability to retain control of their body and quality of life.

Stretching: The Simple Trick to Improve Your Mobility

What is a simple trick you can start doing today to help improve your mobility? Well, the trick is not a trick at all. It’s actually a simple change you can make to your routine. Stretching regularly! Stretching can be used as a mobility exercise that offers several benefits to your physical movement such as improving range of motion, balance, and flexibility. Whether you’re already experiencing a decline in your mobility or want to proactively prevent and protect it, stretching can have a positive impact on your quality of life.

Start with this stretch!

An easy stretch that can help improve lower body mobility is a seated 90/90 rotation stretch. This stretch targets tight hip flexor muscles, which can greatly help in improving hip mobility. To do this stretch, start in a seated position. Keep both knees bent and drop them both to one side of your body, and then the next, mimicking the motions of a windshield wiper. Do this for 20-30 seconds throughout the day, or after long periods of sitting, to help loosen hip flexor muscles and increase lower body mobility.
